March is packed with events, with three dates in particular to remember: the 8th, the 14th, and the 20th.
Since its official recognition by the United Nations in 1977, the 8th has been International Women's Day. The 14th is a date very dear to the hearts of Monegasques and lovers of the Principality, as it is the birthday of our Sovereign Prince. And finally, the 20th will be Spring Day this year, with the equinox occurring at around 3:46 p.m.
Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) was the first painter to focus not on landscape, but on Nature. The exhibition, “Le Sentiment de la Nature” (The Feeling of Nature) at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco - Villa Paloma presents, through the works of more than 30 artists, six sections: storms and nights; forests and gardens; seascapes and waterfalls; deserts and volcanoes; hills and mountains; flowers and butterflies. These are all perspectives on what were already known in ancient times as miracula naturae, or the wonders of nature.
The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, founded by Prince Albert I, presents its brand new temporary exhibition: From Toumaï to Sapiens. This richly illustrated, educational, and interactive exhibition tells the story of the birth and evolution of our species, Homo sapiens, and the entire human lineage known as Hominins. It traces the journey, during long migrations, of human beings who invented tools and mastered fire, before leaving the African cradle of humanity to occupy the entire planet for around 10,000 years. The Museum will also celebrate the arrival of Titi, Coco, and Fifi in the display dedicated to our ancestors.
The Théâtre des Muses awaits you with six plays for young and old alike. There will be “Merci du cadeau !” (Thanks for the gift!), “Le songe d'une nuit d'été” (A Midsummer Night's Dream), “Momo, petit prince des bleuets” (Momo, Little Prince of Blueberries), “Victor Hugo, mon amour” (Victor Hugo, My Love), “La Nuit du 14, Chez Léonie” (The Night of the 14th, At Léonie's) and “L'Eau-Là” (The Water-There).
Happy March to all!
