European Heritage Days: Rainier III Animal Garden

The Jardin Animalier was founded by Prince Rainier III in 1954. Located on the cliffside below the Princely Palace, it features 300 animals of more than 90 species over a one-hectare area. Most of these animals have been abandoned by private individuals, seized by customs or recovered by the fire department. Many rare species are also bred here in collaboration with other zoos as part of European breeding programs. It's also a magnificent park planted with many Mediterranean and exotic species, with a multitude of fragrances and colors.

From the outset, this site has had several vocations:
Educational, Recreational and Conservatory.

During your visit, you'll learn more about the day-to-day work of an animal caretaker, anecdotes about our residents and their history, and admire a magnificent photo exhibition created as part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III.

Location: 9, Terrasses de Fontvieille (Access via the Place du Canton escalator, or level 2B via the shopping center elevator).
Guided tours by appointment: 11am - 2pm - 5pm
Duration: 1h30 (Cancelled in case of rain)
